Application & Room Reservation Timelines – Housing & Residential Education

2025-2026  ACADEMIC YEAR APPLICATION TIMELINE

For all the details, including links, exact dates and times for receiving housing offers and more, please scroll down.

Transfer students can apply for upper-division or first-year housing. If you are not sure which housing option might be best for you, consider the definitions we give in the Housing U application:

  • Housing & Residential Education (HRE) typically designates buildings for first-year, upper-division, and graduate students. First-year students live in first-year buildings and upper-division and graduate students are in upper-division buildings.
  • "First-Year" means you are in your first year at the University of Utah and are under 21 years of age.
  • "Upper-division" means this is not your first year at the University of Utah, or you are transferring with one or more years of post-high school credit from another institution, or are 21 years of age or older.
  • Graduate means you are enrolled in a graduate or professional program.
First-Year Timeline

Now Potential residents must submit a housing application.
Now - February 18, 2025 Newly admitted students are encouraged to read through the New Admit Housing Checklist.
February 18, 2025
(5:00 PM MST)		 Newly admitted students and deferred missionaries who have not met the Student Housing Policy two-semester requirement will receive a message on their message board located under the “Account” tab with information regarding the contracting process.
February 24, 2025
(11:59 PM MST)		 Roommate Preferences due date (must be mutual to be honored). Preferred roommate requests are not available for Spring or Summer Terms.
February 25, 2025
(after 5:00 PM MST)		 Contracting dates posted to the message board found under the "Account" tab for newly admitted students.
March 5 – April 12, 2025
(12:00 PM – 5:00 PM MST daily)		 Contracting opens for newly admitted students (based on contracting date and time).
After April 12, 2025 Notifications regarding the possibility of obtaining on-campus housing will begin to be sent to students who have already met the BYU housing requirement.
After April 12, 2025 Contracting opens for Visiting Students (Spring and Summer only) and Flex GE Students (Spring and Summer Only).
